BATTLE OF GUADALCANAL
The Battle of Guadalcanal took place on August 7th 1942. Douglas MacArthur was the commander of the allied land forces and came up with the strategy of island hopping to get Coleridge to Japan by only attacking the areas around the country. The Japanese built an airbase and the allies attacked them to put a stop to their progress.
This struggle for land lasted 6 months and ended up being on of the longest Pacific theater battles. Named the Island of Death, 24,000 of the 36,000 Japan soldiers died. The United States lost 2 cruisers and 7 destroyers while the Japanese had lost 2 battleships, 1 cruiser, 2 dstroyers, and 10 transports. This battle mainly affected the marines and army troops for both countries. This battle was significant because it was a major turning point in the Pacific theater during World War II. Also because this is when allied forces began to fight an offensive battle in the Pacific during this time.
BATTLE OF TOBRUK
In the Battle of Tobruk Italian troops try to take over Egypt for conrtol over the Suez Canal from Great Britain. Hitler sent Afrika corps, or tanks, led by Erwin Rommel. By soing this the Italians seized Tobruk. The allied forces captured 115,000 Italian prisoners and destroyed Italian forces.
The battle of Tobruk was significant because it showed the the German blitzkrieg could be stopped and it was the first time that this was ever done. This battle also implied the Rommel could be defeated and stopped before they were able to attack Eypyt. The main groups affected by the Battle of Tobruk from the axis and allied powers were Italy, Germany, Britain, Australia, and America.

Hitler, Mussolini, and Hirohito all had the same goal of conquering other lands in order to expand their power. Hirohito, in Japan, had attempted to conquer Manchuria. Mussolini, in Italy, had attempted to take over Ethiopia and Albania. He wanted Ethiopia for natural resources and revenge and he also wanted Albania for control over the Adriatic sea. Hitler, from Germany, wanted Czechoslovakia in order to gain more land, power, and "living space." Anchlus was not allowed, however hitler still formed an alliance with Austria. Thirdly, was the Rhineland, which was the 30 mile buffer zone between France and Germany. Germany had decided to advance into this land. Also, there was the rearmament. Hitler decided to rebuild the German army after World War One. Lastly, is Sudetenland. This was the land Hitler wanted in Czechoslovakia in order gain power and because it was made up with German speaking Czechs. During the Munich Confrenece, representatives from Britain, France, Germany, and Italy. While they were at the Munich Confrence, Britain and France agreed to ket nazi Germany annex part of Czechlosovakia in return for respect from Hitler.
